A guide on how to fix a leaking faucet

Before replacing the fixture or any of its parts, you should turn off the water valve and flush out all pipes with cold water until they are empty. This will remove any sediment that could cause problems as soon as you turn on the faucet again.

-If you have a leaky faucet around the base of the handle or spout, it’s probably an O-ring. The easiest way to fix this is by applying the plumber’s putty to the old O-ring before putting in a new one.
Precautions
Don’t use a wrench to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts in your faucet, as it may damage them. Instead, use two adjustable wrenches to back out or tighten nuts and one wrench by itself to hold screws for tightening or loosening. If you need more leverage, wrap a rag around the wrench’s handle and screw it into the nut.
You should be able to tell whether or not a part is made of metal just by looking at it. However, if you are unsure what type of material something is made of, test it with an electronic device that detects metals (available at hardware stores). Most people prefer to buy new parts when doing a faucet repair. However, you may save some money if you can use it apart from another faucet (from the same brand).
Guide to fixing
A lot of times it is just dirt or particles blocking the drain hole. Sometimes you can clear this out by putting your hand in and gently removing the blockage. For best results, use a long metal object like a screwdriver or pliers to reach into the drain hole. One good trick is to place some paper towels over the opening first so that if there are any small foreign objects, they won’t go down the sink basin.
